訂房、訂位、會議安排，生活裡要確認的項目多得不得了，有位讀者寫信來問，Confirm和make sure都是「確認」，哪個情況要用哪個字才對？

再來是文法上的差異，make sure既然是確保一件事會發生，它後面接的是一個子句，而confirm的彈性就大一點，可以接子句，也可以接名詞。

要確認的是？everything runs smoothly?這個動作會發生，用make sure。

先來看定義上的不同。Confirm要確認「一件事的正確性」，make sure要確認的是「一個動作會發生」。我們會檢查流程，確保事情順利進行。

主管要確認的是「Janice不在辦公室」這個消息是真的，而不是要確保她不會在辦公室，用confirm。

（O）The director wants to confirm if Janice will be out of the office next week.

I'd like to confirm my reservation at the hotel.

I'd like to make sure (that) you have my reservation.

這兩種說法都可以，用make sure語氣略微隨意一些
